چکیده

The main aim of this research is to define the mineralogical composition recent sediments deposited around Al-Teeb river basin in eastern Missan, trying determine provenance or source these sediments. study area represents southeastern edge Mesopotamian Plain and part it. Quaternary deposits cover most area. It clayey with old sea aeolian deposits. These 95% area, while older rocks, which date back Tertiary (Late Miocene – Pliocene), exposed east northeast made up hills undifferentiated Pliocene Mukdadiya Bai-Hassan formations. light components consist mainly quartz, feldspars (potash plagioclase feldspar), sedimentary rock fragments (carbonate fragments, chert evaporates fragments), igneous metamorphic heaviest minerals are opaque, amphiboles, pyroxenes, chlorite, epidotes, biotite, garnet, muscovite, zircon, kyanite, staurolite, rutile. typically formed by rocks (single many cycles), low high-rank acidic basic pegmatite rocks. high percentage opaque heavy clastic sediment refers unstable stability issue areas during shows that there significant variances over several places, indicating dissimilar sources types

Analysis of river sediments in the paleo- Meyghan basin

Introduction The territory of central Iran is now affected by the hot and dry climate. But, several evidences, such as the extreme erosion of running waters, huge alluvial fans, wide alluvial terraces, and flood deposits indicate colder and wetter climate in the territory (Ghahroodi Tali, 2011: 3). The rivers belong to the most important parts of the sedimentary basin. In fact, the rivers are...

Radiological Risk due to Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials in the Soil of Al-Samawah Desert, Al-Muthanna Governorate, Iraq

Introduction: The risk of radioactivity addresses human life directly. The natural rock radioactivity is mainly due to 232Th, 238U), and 40K series. Activities involving blasting, crushing, and processing of rocks into numerous pieces lead to release of radionuclides into the atmosphere in the form of dust particles. M...

Heavy metal distribution in recent sediments along the Tietê River basin (São Pauro, Brazil)

Copyright © 2012 by The Geochemical Society of Japan. Variations in the aquatic environmental conditions can produce a release of heavy metals from the sediment to the water resulting in an increase of their bioavailability and consequent toxicity (Young et al., 1987; Wen and Allen, 1999). This aspect can be further investigated when the samples are analyzed in recent sediments, allowing a deta...

Measurement of Radon Concentrations and Surface Exhalation Rates using CR-39 detector in Soil Samples of Al-Diwaniyah Governorate, Iraq

Introduction: Natural radioactivity in the soil is considered a major indicator of radiological contamination. Primordial radionuclides are the main source of natural radioactivity. Natural radioactivity transfers radionuclides into the environment and poses radiation hazards to people's health. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the radon concentration an...
